Pouce
Coupe is the oldest municipality in the Peace River, it was incorporated
in 1932, but the first European settler, Hector Tremblay arrived
here in 1898. He cut trails south to Grande Prairie, Alberta and
north to Fort St. John. More settlers came to this region after
1911, when the Edson Trail (from Edson, Alberta) was cut through
some 400km (248mi) of wilderness. In 1930, the Northern Alberta
Railway reached Pouce Coupe. Today, it's a quiet little community
that sits overlooking the Pouce Coupe River surrounded by rolling
hills and crop laden fields.

Pouce Coupe sits on Hwy 2, 10km (6.2mi) from Dawson Creek
and approximately 35km (22mi) from the Alberta border. This community
uses the Dawson Creek airport. Helicopter and charter plane companies,
bus service and trucking companies are mostly from Dawson Creek
Recreation
Facilities: Fishing, hunting, hiking in summer. Located close
to all winter sport activities like downhill and cross country
skiing, skating, hockey and snowmobiling
Local
Attractions: Pouce Coupe Museum, housed in the former Northern
Alberta Railway Station (1931); Wooden Train trestle; Pouce Coupe
Hospital Barbecue Day with gymkhana, games, a parade and dance
on July 1st.
